Grief and Bereavement Counselling

Finding your way through grief, at your own pace.

Losing someone we love can change everything. Grief can affect us in ways we don't always expect. It can bring sadness, anger, guilt, anxiety or numbness. It can affect our sleep, concentration, appetite and energy, and sometimes leave us feeling disconnected from ourselves and from the people around us.

There is no right way to grieve, and there is no set amount of time that grief should take.

You may feel that you are coping one day and overwhelmed the next. You may find yourself missing the person who has died intensely, while at other times feeling surprisingly okay. You may wonder whether you should be doing better by now, or feel that other people have moved on while you are still carrying your loss.

You don't have to grieve in a particular way.

At Onni Therapy, I offer grief and bereavement counselling in Leicester and online, providing a safe and compassionate space where you can talk about your loss and everything that comes with it.

A space for your grief

Bereavement is not only about losing someone. It can change our relationships, routines, sense of identity, and our hopes for the future.

There may be things you miss deeply, things you wish had been different, or things that were left unsaid. You may experience feelings that are difficult to talk about with family and friends. Sometimes there can be relief, anger or guilt alongside love and sadness.

You don't need to 'make your grief easier for me'. We can talk about the person you have lost, your relationship with them, what has changed, and how you are finding life now.

My approach is relational and centred around you. I don't believe grief is something that needs to be fixed or hurried. Instead, I offer a space where your experience can be understood, witnessed and gently explored.

Understanding grief

Sometimes understanding what is happening to us can help make grief feel a little less frightening. Alongside individual bereavement counselling, I offer a six-week course exploring grief and loss. The course provides psychoeducation alongside space for reflection and explores topics such as:

How grief affects the body and mind

Why grief doesn't follow a predictable pattern, continuing bonds and ways of maintaining a connection with someone who has died

The dual process of grief and moving between loss and everyday life

Complicated and prolonged grief

Identity and the changes that can follow bereavement

Self care

The course isn't about telling you how you should grieve. It is about helping you understand your experience and recognising that many of the things you may be feeling are understandable responses to loss.

Grief, nature and walking

I also facilitate guided grief groups and Memory Mile walks at Tithe Green Natural Burial.

These offer an opportunity to spend time outdoors, walk alongside others who have experienced loss, and learn more about grief in a gentle and informal setting. There is no expectation to share. You can simply walk, listen, reflect or talk if you want to.

I believe there can be something deeply supportive about spending time with others who have lost someone they love, being outdoors, and creating space for both grief and joy to coexist. My work with Tithe Green reflects my belief that grief is not something to be hurried or fixed, but something we learn to carry and live alongside.

You don't have to carry your grief alone.
